A destination Hindu wedding of Aishani and Pranav in Tuscany at the Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco Resort & Spa in Barga.
The wedding day was full of traditional rituals that were very important to the wedding couple and their families. They started with the traditional Mehndi, where the bride has intricate henna designs drawn on her hands and feet. It is a way of wishing the couple good health and prosperity as they make their journey of marriage.
Then the Haldi, when the bride and groom are covered in turmeric paste. Turmeric has traditionally been used to beautify the bride and groom and is also considered extremely auspicious as it signifies purity, fertility and good health. The bride and the groom also apply a small portion of this sacred paste onto their unmarried family and friends. It is said that whoever gets touched by this paste will soon find a good looking partner.
Before the wedding ceremony under the Mandap, the groom, upon a horse, with his family form a ‘Baraat’ (wedding procession) in the noisiest way possible whilst dancing to the ‘dhol’.
Then onto the Hindu ceremony. Here, importunately, the bride and groom walk around the holy fire together seven times. Each time they walk around the fire they take a different vow. These vows are later read out by the priest before the couple become husband and wife.
Then a big night to celebrate the newly-wed couple!
