This colourful Hindu wedding celebrated in Barga near Lucca gave us a taste of the traditions of Indian culture, with all its rituals. The day before the wedding, the traditional Mehndi was held, in which the bride was decorated with henna drawings on her hands and feet. It is a way of wishing the couple good health and prosperity as they embark on their wedding journey. In the evening, the Sangeet was a choreographed dance performance performed by the bride and groom’s families. The wedding day began with the Haldi. During this ritual, the bride and groom are covered with turmeric paste. Turmeric was traditionally used to adorn the bride and groom and is considered highly auspicious as it signifies purity, fertility and good health. Before the wedding ceremony, there was the Baraat, the bridal procession of the groom arriving on horseback at the ceremony site with his family and as noisily as possible while dancing to the sound of the Dhol. During the Indian ceremony, under the Mandap, the bride and groom walked together seven times around the sacred fire. And finally, a beautiful evening of emotional speeches at the wedding reception and wild dancing to celebrate the bride and groom.
